As plans for the new Main Library move forward, public participation is very important. The largest private gift the Sevier County Public Library System has received was the $1M dollars given by the Danny, Liz, Lindsey and D. J. King family. The King family also issued a challenge of an additional $500,000 to the rest of the county to help in the effort to raise the $10 million needed to build the new library. The new library will bear the name King Family Public Library and will feature a large, open Grand Reading Room, The Sevier County History Center, a business resource center, Teen Cyber Cafe, children's area, class and conference rooms, a restaurant, and later a theater/auditorium. |

The goal of the Library Foundation is to raise $10 million for the new library, which is to replace the 40-year-old existing library. Danny King's father, A.J. King, made the first lead gift of $1,000 in the library's campaign in 1066. The Kings also are contributing another $500,000 as a challenge gift as an incentive for additional gifts. Supplementing the Kings' gift are a pledge of $3 million from the county and $2 million from the City of Sevierville. The library has received other generous donations and pledges from the library staff and library supporters. The success of the new library depends on the support of all Sevier County residents and no gift is too small whether in the form of pennies from school children or corporate gifts.
